Name: Vanadi Door: Right Canon: Original Canon Point: A few months after leaving his planet. Age: 26 Appearance: Here! History: Here's a big long journal entry (my god I tried so hard to be concise). Personality: Note: Underline will be used to indicate positive/negative traits. Vanadi has spent most of his life being a charmer. He was an expert at the ins and outs of his old high society life, and it was a simple thing to butter someone up to get just what he wanted out of them. His arsenal consisted of friendliness, compliments, favors promised, and of course sheer persistence. He was — and still is — a difficult man to dissuade when he’s determined to have something from someone. All this has led him to be quite good at reading and understanding people, because how else can he work his way around someone without anticipating their desires and reactions? He’s comfortable with people even now, and always knows just what to say to keep things moving smoothly. Although this easily and frequently lends itself to manipulation, that isn't all there is to it. Vanadi genuinely enjoys the company of others; he takes comfort from their presence, and particularly from the expression of physical affection. Which is to say, he really, really enjoys sex. He’d do a great deal to gain someone’s attention, in particular their companionship, and most especially physical intimacy with them. His interest is keen enough to push over the edge into addiction sometimes, and it doesn’t take much to become an easily manipulated weakness of his. Despite all his understanding of people, he is still a sucker for a pretty face. It isn’t just the sex he craves, though, it really is the whole package of the company of others that he yearns for. The man is an extrovert, through and through. Being around others gives him energy, and the more positive his relationship with them, the brighter he shines. Deprive him of that, though, and the result is something withdrawn, sullen, and pitiable. Having had good company whenever he wanted it for nearly all of his life has left him with no resistance to loneliness, and he suffers it acutely. Alone, he withdraws and becomes morose, and is prone to dwelling on negativity. He needs others around to distract himself from the various unhappinesses in his life. And there are quite a few of those. He resents having seen the darker side of his people, and feels betrayed by his own society. He knows in turn that it wasn’t just his society that would do such a thing, but really any society under the right circumstances. People as a whole just aren’t as compassionate as he’d initially believed. He hates anyone who reminds him of the cold and unfeeling logical mind of Venus that he’d been held captive with for so long, and he especially hates the reminder of the life he lost, what’s been done to him, and who he is now. He’s a colder and more tactical man than he ever had to be before, and he hates that he’s been brought to such a state. His cybernetic augmentations and deeply scarred body are just one more reminder of all of it, and so his own appearance is one more thing on the list of things he resents. Since his experience, Vanadi has become much more wary of people. He needs them, and craves company, but he is nonetheless keenly aware of the fact that people are, ultimately, out for themselves. You can trust someone only until it’s convenient for them to betray that trust, and so betrayal should always be anticipated. He goes into every interaction expecting to get something only if it’s beneficial to the other party to give it, and with an eye out for attempts at scamming him. He has very little patience for someone being actively awful, and while in previous years he’d have taken rudeness and a lack of manners in stride, these days he’s more likely to snap and snipe back. Being quite physically capable, he’s confident in his abilities if it should happen to come to a fight — though he would prefer it not. He’s especially loathe to take a life, but realistic enough to recognize that it may occasionally be a necessity. A choice between keeping himself alive and keeping someone trying to hurt him alive isn't really much of a choice at all. He knows, of course, that these pessimistic assumptions don’t apply to everyone. He has had good and kind friends, and so of course he knows it’s possible to find genuine compassion. That he expects otherwise is a matter of self preservation, but he’s genuinely grateful to be proven wrong. He appreciates a good heart, and will do his very best to repay any kindness shown to him. Give him enough, and the giver would find themselves with Vanadi’s solid and unwavering loyalty. It’s a cold enough world as it is, after all. Although he’s out to keep himself alive before anything else, he doesn’t need to be one of the ones to add to the misery. Powers and Abilities: He's very athletic and well-trained in a fluid, showy form of martial arts developed by his race. Until recently most of his skill was theoretical and untested, but that has begun to change, and he's proven himself able to put it to practice. His augmentations enhance his speed and durability somewhat, and his strength and endurance greatly. He can also hack a system by jacking into it directly (at the risk of opening himself up to attack in turn). He's a pretty good shot with his dinky little gun as well, with his cybernetics to steady and enhance his aim. He's also so good at cooking, so good. Inventory: His space hobo backpack, which has a scifi solar cellphone, and a small, fairly short range laser pistol, which can discharge 6 shots before it has to recharge. Samples: Communication, and thought. |
